Neurology is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system, the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves.

Epilepsy

Facial Paralysis (FP)

Facial paralysis is caused by damage to the facial nerve which supplies the muscles to the face. Facial paralysis can occur with problems in the brain or with problems to the nerve after it has exited the brain.

Inflammatory Brain Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory brain disease, also known as meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology, or “meningitis” is an autoimmune disease.

Myasthenia Gravis (MG)

Myasthenia gravis is a disease caused by an abnormality in the Acetylcholine receptor (AChR), which receives messages from the nerve and signals the muscle to contract.

Steroid Responsive Meningitis-Arteritis (SRMA)

SRMA is an auto-immune disease that causes inflammation in the layers around the spinal cord called the meninges (meningitis) and small blood vessels (arteritis).

Seizures

Seizures are caused by abnormal electrical firing in the brain. In some cases, the seizures are caused by an identifiable problem inside the brain (i.e. cancer, infection, inflammation, congenital brain malformation). Animals with a known cause are said to have symptomatic epilepsy.

Vestibular Disease (VD)

Vestibular disease is caused by a problem with the system of balance (the vestibular system). There is a part of the vestibular system that resides outside of the brain in the inner ear and a part of the vestibular system that resides inside the brain stem.
